1. Make sure that the manufacturer's trademark is stamped inside the ring shank.

2. Make sure that there is a purity stamp inside the ring shank, indicating the purity of the gold or platinum.

3. Make sure that the ring has a solid back and heavy shank. Avoid lightweight rings that are hollowed out underneath.

4. Avoid rings with porosity (small pits, bubbles, or spots in the gold or platinum indicate poor casting).
